But more importantly, AMERICANA TONIGHT! is laying claim to hosting The Unofficial Americana Conference Kick-Off show, Wednesday September 22nd at the Sutler, 2608 Franklin Road, Nashville. This is an honor we're taking very seriously. Ok, we're not all that serious about anything but we do have one hell of a night of Americana on tap for the early attendees and Nashville faithful. We've added two additional performers for this show and it's a slam-bang event from start to finish!
Wednesday September 22nd The Unofficial Americana Music Conference Kick-Off:
10:30 Mary Alice Wood www.maryalicewood.com
For anyone attending the conference, Americana Tonight will be at the trade show with our own booth. We'll be pushing the show to both radio, sponsors and performers, plus we'll have live performances each day in the booth from Walt Wilkins, Jeff Talmadge, Stephen Clair, The Mickeys and others.
Believe it or not, we're putting the finishing touches on our shows through the end of 2004. For printing purposes, November and December will be combined since there's only 3 shows each month (We'll be dark on November 24th, December 22nd and December 29th.) That means our print deadline for all advertising is October 15th. We've made advertising very affordable (as little as $20) and it's a great time to push your merchandise and shows. Contact me if you need more info (email@example.com
And for everyone who has asked when I'll be playing (not that they care but just to appear interested), I'll be at Suzette's Alt-Country Hoedown this Saturday, September 25th, at The End on Elliston Place across from Exit/In. Also on the bill that night is Caddle (Punk-A-Billy from Alabama) and a bunch of other great acts. Doors open at 9:00. My band for the night is first rate: Teddy Larkin on drums, Gary DesJardins on bass, Thomm Jutz on electric guitar, Susie Monick on mando/banjo and Kelly Norris on backing vocals.
Thanks again for your on-going support of Americana Tonight and I hope to see you this Wednesday!!

CANDACE ASHER BIG IN FRANCE!
A current record store poll compiled by the FNAC chain in France of country music fans' Top 20 favourite country artists over the last 25 years includes Candace Asher along with the likes of Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn and other household names. Her eponymous CD has produced an ongoing list of top 5 radio hits on the independent EMS charts with "One Tender Tear," hitting #3 followed by "Slow Dancing" which peaked at #2. The album's opening track, "Every Time Your Heart Breaks," was at #5 when Candace left Nashville in June for her 2002 summer European tour, and it peaked at #2 in July, while Candace was mid-tour.
Candace was the featured artist on the cover of Switzerland's Country Music Magazine. She performs regularly at a number of Europe's country festivals, proudly sharing festival stages during her 2002 summer tour with Lee Roy Parnell, Jim Lauderdale, Guy Clark, Marty Stuart and many others. She is currently writing material for her long-awaited follow-up - exciting times indeed for one of America's truly talented artists.
Back in Nashville after a highly successful tour, Candace is busy planning her return to Europe in 2003, hopefully including the UK. More announcements shortly!
Review from a recent Swiss show:
July Club meeting
Restaurant Boerse, Zurich
Candace Asher is an extraordinary singer and songwriter. Her texts are honest and contain messages from her heart. Her music is comparable to Mary Chapin Carpenter, Joni Mitchell, Rosanne Cash or Kathy Mattea. Raised in the Catskill Mountains in the state of New York, she moved to New York City at the end of the 80's. There she worked hard to become well known in the folk scene. In 1993 she moved to Nashville, where she had the opportunity, among other things, to regularly perform in the world famous Bluebird Cafe. This history explains her style of music, honest and earthy country influenced by pop and folk, which can be positioned between Nashville and Americana. Her texts are meaningful and entertaining. Her actual CD Candace Asher has also been published in Switzerland and Germany, where she studied one semester in Heidelberg.
Folk-icon Richie Havens characterized Candace Asher as extraordinarily talented singer-songwriter. With her temporary band from Germany, her extraordinary voice and her beautiful, self-confident songs, she will be a distinguished and valuable addition to the club meeting at the Boerse.
After her first trip to Europe in September of last year, where she toured Norway and Denmark, she now plans a second trip for this summer. Since Belgium and again Scandinavia were on her list from the beginning, it was obvious to put her pretty decent knowledge of the German language to use in Germany and Switzerland. She clicked on www.country-music.ch and finally found CMC-president Arthur, who luckily was in charge of the club meetings. That way, the CMC members can look forward to a true musical treat. May they show the same reaction as one of her American fans (Dennis Martin, Ann Arbor, Michigan): " I saw Candace in a few, short sequences in a TV show from London titled Women in Country Music/Naked Nashville. She performed in the same part as the Nashville stars Pam Tillis, Kathy Mattea and Suzy Boguss. Candace was introduced as a rising and important singer. Her songs and her voice captured me instantly and I purchased her CD immediately as soon as it was available in the stores".
Candace is on tour in Europe with her band: Thomm Juty lead guitar; Peter Goetzmann drums; Andreas Waeldele fiddle and mandolin; Richie Schoernig bass. Highlights so far:
The first Swiss show at the Kentucky Saloon in Pratteln was a huge success - she also played the Interlaken Festival in Switzerland with Jim Lauderdale, Danni Leigh and Mustang Sally; the Copenhagen Countrz Music Fest in Denmark with Marty Stewart; the Cerexhe Fest in Belgium with Charlie McCoy (who told Candace as she came off stage, "You killed them"; and to a weekend crowd of 30,000 at Craponne Sur Arzon's Country Rendezvous Festival to encores and complete cd sellout!

Here's a review in Germany's Country Jukebox by Max W. Achatz:
Eurpoe's legendary Radio Caroline (http://www.radiocaroline.de) recently featured Candace's "That Old Car". Here's the playlist from the evening:

Candace appeared at the Bluebird Cafe as part of the Chick Singer Night. The Nashville Tennessean has a blurb here. Some highlights:
Chick Singer Night is planned as a monthly showcase for female singers of all musical genres. Nashville becomes the third city to host a chick singer night. The original showcase has been in Chicago for 13 years. There's another in Los Angeles, and Miami and New York are being added this year.
Bluebird owner Amy Kurland says the showcase is a great opportunity for singers in a town where so many more outlets are available to songwriters.
''I think this is a tremendous opportunity for women - too bad for the men - to get out and show what they can do. And it certainly adds to the Bluebird's diversity,'' Kurland said.
On the first bill: Jill Sissell, Candace Asher, Ronda Wynn and Lari White.
Candace wraps up 2001 on several Top Album lists, including Denmark's "COUNTRYEXPRESSEN", where she is joined by the likes of Rodney Crowell, George Strait, David Ball, George Jones and Alan Jackson.
From the EMS Newsletter:
David Ball's topical "Riding With Private Malone" retains the number one position for the fifth week on the EMS charts (European Media Services), making it one of the most successful European chart record ever - just two weeks behind the Kacey Jones duet with Delbert McClinton from last year, which managed 7 weeks at the top. The song, in spite of being on the indie Dualtone label, is still in the Top 5 in the Billboard Country Singles chart.
The knock on effect of course means that songs that would in normal circumstances be certain of a #1 airplay hit, have to be content with a runner-up position. It happened recently to Heidi Hauge and now it's happening to Candace Asher. Her wonderful song "Slow Dancing" deserves the top slot but has to settle with a #2 position for the time being, such is the dominance of David's remarkable record. Candace is up to #2 this week.
EMS EUROPEAN MOST POPULAR TRACKS CHART
The European Independent Singles and Tracks Most Popular Chart compiled by EMS reflects which tracks by non-major label acts are proving to be the most popular throughout Europe at this time, as voted for by the most influential country DJs in Europe.
David Ball's topical "Riding With Private Malone" retains the number one position. The song, in spite of being on the indie Dualtone label, is now in the Top 5 in the Billboard Country Singles chart.
Heidi Hauge from Norway hangs onto her #2 position from 7 days ago with her version of the old Buffy Saint-Marie song "I'm Gonna Be A Country Girl Again", while Candace Asher' s "Slow Dancing" (#3) and Plain Loco (#4) also are frozen at last week's positions.
Troy Cook Jr is up again this week from 8 to #5 with his latest tune, "Movin' Out, Movin' Up, Movin' On" while American Mike Beeler celebrates the release of his first album in the UK by climbing into the Top 10 at #6 with the very catchy "She Oughta Be". The album contains some very strong tracks - expect more singles next year.
Australian singer Karen O'Shea, who was discovered by Frank Ifield, has a very catchy country-pop song on release at this time. "My Love Goes That Far" is up two notches to #7 while the highest new entry inside the Top 40 is at #18 for Paul Overstreet and "The Toughest Battles".
